such a great cause! I donated today, but is the raffle already closed? I saw that on one page, but another page said something different? Will my entries still count?

  • http://www.eatingrd.com eatingRD

I think that must have been a glitch because I can’t find that page again? weird, sorry about that

  • http://profile.typepad.com/pim Pim

No, Menu for Hope is *not* closed yet. We’re open until at least Christmas, and yes, your bids still count.

  • http://www.roamingtales.com Caitlin

Great prizes and way to go with the fundraising effort so far!
I can’t find the code for coffee with Ruth Reichl. Can you help, please?
I know Menu for Hope has been going for a long time and you’ve been building on the success year after year. I hope it’s not out of line to make a suggestion for how to make it easier for donors.
The travel blogging fundraiser Passports with Purpose (by contrast an upstart since it was only founded last year) used the same method as you last year, where you donated and then typed in the codes in the comment fields. This year they did something different and it was ridiculously easy for donors. All the prizes were listed on an online form. You could type in how many tickets you want right next to each prize and it would update the donation total for you at the bottom of the page. Then you could click on payment and it would take you through to pay by PayPal, directly to the charity.
I’m not sure how they did it but I’m sure they would share with you for next time.
I will certainly be making a donation anyway but I would be less likely to promote this to friends and family just because it’s not as user-friendly.

  • http://www.davidlebovitz.com David

Hi Caitlin: One of the problems with PayPal is that they take a substantially-higher percentage of the donations and FirstGiving was kind enough to give us a great rate. (And they have awesome customer service; I had a glitch and they answered the phone quickly and resolved it instantly.)
There’s now an easy-to-use donation widget that makes this really clear.
But thanks for the suggestion and we are always looking for ways to make this easier for folks to donate, as well as ways to bring in more funds for the charity.

Pim, can you please add Prize UW13 (Vanilla Gift Basket) to this list?
