Simplicity at its best

lesabricotsIt’s good to be home. After two days in the Culinary heart-of-darkness land, it’s so very good to be home and eat my own food free of crap and preservatives. Breakfast this morning was a steaming bowl of latte, made with organic whole milk, a simply heavenly slice of toast, and a handful of superlative apricots bought at the Saturday Farmer’s Market.

ToastyHeavenThe toast was a crusty La Brea Bakery bread from Whole Foods, slathered with salted Strauss organic butter and a healthy dollop of simple Abricots Bergeron confiture from Mme. Ferber. The day is good again.

    I know what you mean – after travelling for business and eating out all the time – it is so good to be home to eat the simple stuff that is a part of your daily routine! Simple, pure pleasures.

    Great coffee, bread, butter and jam (especially Mme. Ferber’s) can make any day, and in my book, any time of day, as fabulous as the most elaborate three star meal. Welcome back. :-)

    Pim: I noticed that even the flow and feel of your writing changes when you’re not happy with your cuisine…the last entry was all short sentences and disappointment, whereas this one is flowing and although short and to the point, leaves the reader with a glowing sense of satisfaction. Glad you’re home.

    Thanks for the nice welcome back and the empathy, everyone. I had pretty much the same breakfast today, just a different flavor confiture and plouts instead of apricots. I love being home.
    Dyxegus, sorry for not replying sooner. I don’t think you can buy the confiture here in the Bay Area. I’ve never seen them myself. I get mine from Paris, and I’ve also seen them at Liberty in London.

    m. a.: My confiture book just arrived from Amazon.fr. I don’t know if I should ever be inspired enough to actually make anything out of that book, but it’s definitely fun to look at!
    I’ve never seen her confiture in Strasbourg eihter, but then again I didn’t look very hard. I got some confiture from the cheese shop, La Fromagerie des Tonneliers. I’ve got some Reine-Claude and some miel d’acacia from provence. They are both fantastic.

    I’m not aware that you can buy in in Strasbourg, but if you are near Colmar, her family’s little grocery is not far — in Niedermorshmir. We’ve been there twice and bought a dozen or so jars for transport back to SF. I like her shallot confit even better than some of the sweet confitures. The shop is just a little local grocery/bakery and general store, but they had at least 25 or more different flavors the first time I was there, and only a few less last June. Sadly we won’t get to Alsace this year.
    I also found a few jars in London at a shop in Clerkenwell.
