OH MY! The food looks as if it could jump off the screen, but the utensils are clever…unusual. Thanks and waiting for the “write-up”.

Pim – the presentation there is just unreal. –very inspirational. I’m running out and tearing off all the screens in the house for my next dinner party! Can’t wait for you to write about the food. Don’t forget the wine-talk! -CD

Thanks for your beautiful pictures, you do have an eye Pim! (and a nice little camera too :-)
El Bulli’s “plates” are all awfully cute as usual. The whole things looks heavy on desserts at first sight, but we do know that things aren’t what they seem… What looks like dessert is probably not one.
I can see the fake caviar is still there, but it has changed color. And the chocolate earth has been stuck to, which is great, it’s probably the best chocolate dessert I ever had.
I’m sure you had a lot of fun. This meal looks more fun than ever. A lot of things are there (the oyster, the fried egg…) that very probably are not what they seem to be at all. Each course is a constant surprise. I’m looking forward to experiencing this sometime this Summer.

You’ve documented your culinary journey in pictures extremely well. Can I ask you, do you find it difficult/embarassing to take decent pictures in a posh restaurant. Do you have to let the owner of the restaurant know? What is good practice? We have a restaurant review site on London and we go around snapping every dish with our mobiles. Hence the poor quality. That in itself is difficult as sometimes we get wierd looks from other customers. I try to get good angles and good light…but sometimes it’s not at all practical. The light from my mobile always draws attention. I would think it would be even harder in posh restaurants…they would get paranoid that you’re leaking out their trade secrets in presentation or artistery. I personally think that we’re doing them a favour in publicising their food (if it’s a good review, of course). All the pics you take are of excellent quality – good clarity and use of light. Do you simply use a digital camera? Whatever you do…you do it exceptionally well. Keep up the great work!

    Great pictures,
One of the best experiences I’ve had was swimming naked at the beach in Cala Monjoy after dinning at El Bulli . ¿Did you try it? ;-)

It was a super fun night. I think that between us, the diners around the table, had clocked up 25,000 miles to get there!

Were you the blogger who identified the excess of galangal in the meal? :)
Waiting to read your write up… esp now that the curiosity is peaked..seeing all the interesting pictures…

    Hi everyone,
Sorry for the disappearing act, as they say around here, la vie était mouvementée, these days.
Thanks for the compliments. I’m getting a hang of these taking a photo thing, but certainly am far, far from being any good at it yet.
Culinary Hag, well, I try not to disturb other diners. I never use flash in fancy restaurants for one, unless I am in a private room, and only if my companions don’t mind. I’ve never really encountered restaurants who prohibited photos, well except Pierre Gagnaire–who is a special case anyway as he doesn’t even take stages or publish recipes for fear of copies. Most other people are quite fine with it.
    cheers
    Pim
Nopisto, no, ;-) didn’t try it, was still a little cold when I was there.

Almost Like Being at El Bulli

So maybe you’ll never get to the Spanish coast and the famous laboratory of food there, but that swell blogger Pim has, and over at Chez Pim she’s got a great little set of snaps up on the photo-sharing site Flickr. Go to her blog, click o…

Ever think of comeing to Toronto?

  • Kathy

How much did your meal at El Bulli cost? My husband and I are going to Spain next year and I’m DYING to have a 5 hour meal.

Great photos! We’re going to be there in 2 weeks. Would you mind commenting on what the lighting is like there? Easy to photograph? Are they cool about photos?
    Thanks!

i have dinner party at my home and make many of the recipes i found from blogs and these are marvelous and also variety of wines.

Wonderful pictures! Looking around the restaurant, we weren’t the only one’s with a camera, and the staff seemed to be pretty accommodating. The light is fairly bright for a restaurant, so it’s much easier to take pictures without a flash there. Still, kudos for such great images.
I documented my dinner there, but in my case it’s mostly text!

I’ve been at El Bulli five times since 2003, last visit on 27th April this year. Every visit is like travel to a new gourmet world, elegant, comfortable, healthy and always better year over year. I have articles about every visit in spanish language, because my english is far from good enough to used it for. Tell me if you want to read them and also I’ll send you last menu pictures. Regards, Melinda
