Menu for Hope V, raffle results

So here it is, the list of the lucky winners in our Menu for Hope V raffle.  This campaign raised exactly US$ 62,206.86 in support of the UN World Food Program.  Considering the economic climate we’ve found ourselves in, this is absolutely amazing.  And for this, I have all of you to thank, the generous donors who came back year after year to lend a hand, and food bloggers all over the world who have adopted this as our communal cause. But I owe a particularly huge thank you to the six local Menu for Hope hosts, Alder of Vinography, Ed of Tomato, Jaden of Steamy Kitchen, Matt of MattBites, Meena of Hooked on Heat, and Sara of Ms.Adventure in Italy.  I wouldn’t have been able to pull off this campaign without their help.  Another big thank you goes to Derrick of Obsession with Food, who wrote and administered the program we use to pick the raffle winners for the past three years.

I’m sure you’re very eager to see if you’ve won anything, so I won’t hold you up any longer.  The list of winners is at the end of this post.

If you found yourself one of the very lucky winners, please contact the blogger who offered the prize or the local host for the prize if you don’t know how to contact the blogger directly.  Please make sure you use the same email address you gave us when you bid to contact them, that’s how we can make sure you’re actually you!

    Felicitations to all the winners…!
you all are so very generous.
Although my bids did not win, (I bid just to show support more than anything, I have much more than I need) the children really are the winners. That warms my heart.
I want to pledge my small and relatively new food blog’s support and donate two prizes for next year to raise a small bit more money for this truly worthy cause.
Please feel free to contact me when you need my help in any way.
Cheers to you Pim…you are amazing and a true inpiration.

Who is Marty McCarty and can I be his friend?
All kidding aside, another great year, and everyone I gave “chances” to as gifts is requesting more of the same next year… thank you for your work!

Thank you, Pim, for doing this. I am glad to have helped raise some cash for Lesotho, a place I’ve actually been to, years ago. And yes, it is as poor as it looks. But they make a mean goat stew, I can attest!

Well, Pim, you’ve proven to so many just how much one person–more specifically, one food blogger– can do to change the world. What an incredible cause and outpouring of support from the food writing/loving community.
Here’s to you and everyone that contributed!

Great job, although I do wonder how one person (Marty McCarty) could’ve won so many items. perhaps the code should be tweaked to limit people to 3 prizes or something like that. It would be nice to spread the wealth around a little more.

    Pim –
    – first, of course, thanks :). Second: I’ve been trying to get in touch via your gmail but to no avail; can you drop me a line re: UW19? Thanks!

  • Pim said:
    January 29th, 2009 at 2:14pm

Derrick and I talked about this, whether we should limit the prizes one donor can win, but we decided against it. I think each ticket should have the same one chance, no matter how many times the winner has already won.
On the issue of one person winning too many prizes, we don’t really know what to say except that Derrick looked over the code many times and saw no potential issue. On the issue of Derrick’s integrity I won’t even comment on except to say I trust him implicitly.
The best we can surmise is there are one or two big donors who game the system well, by selecting the prizes carefully from the list of “unloved” prizes with few bids, and they got lucky. That’s about it.
