Updated with new prizes!
Our West Coast host Matt of Matt Bites had this to say about this prize.
"You’re bidding on a two-day workshop in Los Angeles, California. In
this 2-day seminar you’ll learn about styling, plating and garnishing
breakfast foods as well as working with real ice cream and frozen
desserts. Although this is a level 2 class offered by Denise I’m more
than positive you’ll get so much from this workshop. And if you’re a
food blogger chances are you have some experience with getting food on
your plate to look good already. Please note that this is a new
curriculum not offered before so it’s extra exciting! To top it all
off I’ll be there the entire time taking pictures of the class and
working with you on the photo aspect of it all." From Mattbites and the amazing Denise Vivaldo of Food Fantatics
Again from Matt, "The amazing folks at O Olive Oil have donated
again this year to Menu Of Hope and I’m pleased to offer their two
gifts here. What you’re bidding on is an O Olive Oil Butler Tray
complete with an assortment of oils and vinegars. But not just ANY oil
and vinegar. As you may know I’m obsessed with everything they do
because they are all about quality and flavor. Not to mention amazing
wonderfully gracious guys. These Butler Trays can go for a lot and make
the best gifts but of course I wouldn’t fault you if you kept them for
yourself. I promise to look the other way. "

for someone in Santa Cruz who loves coffee. The winner of this prize
will get one coffee of their choice every day for the entire year of
2009–any coffee on the menu at Lulu’s, a royale (David’s choice), a

UW27: One rack of free range Colorado grown lamb produced by Double Ewe of Cimarron, Colorado
From Dallas of Diaries of a MODman, O.K, one full rack of Colorado grown lamb. It is produced by Double Ewe of Cimarron, Colorado. The lamb is not just free range lamb, it is open range lamb. They feed during the summers up in the Colorado mountains in some of the most fertile, beautiful meadows you have ever seen. The ranchers are strictly opposed to any genetic alteration. The only way to get better lamb is to buy 5 acres in the mountains and raise your own lamb.
UW28: Dinner with Clare of Rainy Days & Sundays at Chateau Marmont
Clare of Rainy Days & Sundays is offering a dinner with her at the famed Chateau Marmont Hotel restaurant in West Hollywood. Chef Carolynn Spence (formerly of Spotted Pig in NYC) will create an incredible tasting menu for us – with wine pairings. The winner may choose the date/time for whenever you’d like. You will meet the chef and sommelier as well. Transport to LA not included, of course.
Included in the dinner will be a box of treats created by yours truly, that you can take home with you.
From Jenny of Foray Into Food, a wonderful fourmet gift basket! includes chutney, marmalade, spicy peanuts, tasty shortbread, delicious caramels and much more, delivered anywhere in the mainland USA. I’d eat the contents in like 8 minutes, no doubt about that.
From Hobson’s Choice of No Choice At All, 5 lbs. of pancetta and 3 lbs. of lardo (a.k.a. "Iowa White") from La Quercia in Iowa. Of course, this being such a special fundraiser, we had to offer up "special" pork. La Quercia, with the help of Becker Lane Organic Farm in Dyersville, IA (where Field of Dreams was filmed), has raised a limited number of organic, heirloom, Berkshire hogs on an acorn diet. The Berkshire breed is already widely renowned for its silky meat and generous, flavorful fat, but when these pigs are treated to an acorn diet, the result is a truly heavenly hog-eating experience. This is a centuries-old tradition that echos that of the highly prized Iberico Bellota in Spain. The taste is sublime and unlike anything you’ve ever tried. This is one prize that is almost impossible to find anywhere but the country’s best restaurants. (NOTE: Prize will not be available until April, products are still in the process of being cured.) SHIPPING LIMITED TO UNITED STATES LOWER 48

All the grass fed beef from The Oliver Ranch Company meet these quality standards: “Traceable from farm to fork, no added growth hormones, no preventative antibiotics, 100% vegetable based diet, gentle handling techniques”.
Your Artisan Steak Tasting kid will include eight large Rib-Eye steaks, two each from four artisan ranches, each specializing in a different breed, region, diet, and aging technique:
* Dry-Aged Charolais-Cross, Front Range Region, CO, Elliott & Ferris Family Ranches

* Wet-Aged Holstein-Friesian, Imperial Valley, CA, 3 Brand Cattle Company, Bob Beechinor

From Hank of Honest Food. Check out what Hank says…"Wild game charcuterie. Yep. I will make the winner a gift basket of yummy sausage-y things that I have hunted myself. My plan is to offer the winner the following:
* Canada Goose “prosciutto”
* Wild Boar lonzino, which is air-cured pork loin (pictured above)
* Wild duck salami, done as a soppresata
* 2-3 pounds of fresh wild boar sausages, done to order — that’s right, you get to pick what kind I make.
I’m pretty sure I don’t need to tell you that there is nowhere else in America you can get this deal. You cannot buy true wild game — it’s illegal. The only way to get your hands on charcuterie like this is to know a hunter who can make salami: That’d be me."
Courtesy of Nathan of House of Annie Food Blog. "Heirloom Tomato" by Amy Goldman is an encyclopedia of information on hundreds of varieties of (you guessed it) heirloom tomatoes. But beyond just information and recipes, this book features the delicious photographic artwork of Victor Schrager. IN ADDITION to the book, Annie will help the winner choose seeds of 10 varieties of tomatoes out of Annie’s library of over 200 heirloom tomatoes. Annie will mail seed packets of these varieties out to the winner along with the cookbook in January. But wait! There’s more! If the winner of the book is in the San Francisco Bay Area, we will deliver 10 starts of heirloom tomato plants, ready for planting, in late April or early May; or they can come to the House of Annie in San Jose in late August or early September to collect a basket of ripe tomatoes from our organic garden.
My friend the talented chef (and also a contributor to the NY Times
Food Section) Daniel Patterson will treat a lucky winner of this Menu
for Hope prize (plus her/his even luckier friend) to a scrumptious
tasting menu at Daniel’s two Michelin stars restaurant Coi in San
Francisco. The post dinner sojourn next door is on you, however – wink, wink.
If you’ve never been to Coi, this is your chance to try. I know I’m
biased, Daniel and his gorgeous wife Alexandra are very dear friends of
ours, but I’m telling you, Coi is the most exciting restaurant in San
Francisco–there is nowhere else I’d rather eat at the moment. Drop a
tenner and try your chance?
Windy Oaks Estate Winery and Vineyards
is located at the southern, coastal end of the Santa Cruz Mountains
appellation, 1,000 feet up on a ridge overlooking the Monterey Bay.
They also happens to be one of my favorite wine makers, not locally but
anywhere. They make delicate, elegant wines with judicious use of oak
and fruit. Just delicious, delicious stuff that’s also very
food-friendly. They are offerring to host a private cheese and barrel
tasting of their award-winning, highly rated estate Pinot Noir and
Chardonnay, for 8 people. Judy & Jim Schultze, the proprietors and
winemakers, will lead the tour and provide the barrel tasting. The
afternoon will consist of a walking tour of the beautiful 15-acre
vineyard, with wine tasting on the ridge overlooking the Monterey Bay.
Artisanal cheeses and local breads to complement the wines will
accompany the sample tasting. After the walk, you will return to the
winery, nestled in the redwoods, and taste from our unreleased vintages
still in their French oak barrels. Jim, the master winemaker, will
explain his Burgundian style, innovative all-gravity winemaking
techniques, from harvest and crush, through to barrel aging. The event
will last approximately 2 hours. This is a perfect event for anyone
who is interested in how premier grapes are grown, and artisan wine is
made, in a small family estate vineyard and winery.

It’s a striking land, Shan State. Just across the northern border of
Thailand lies a different world; a landscape steeped in beauty, a
people with histories worth reading. And tea. Fine, sweet, glorious green tea. When her Burmese students took journalist and blogger Karen Coates from Rambling Spoon
to dinner last month and she asked the origin of the tea on the table.
One blurted out: “Shan State. The best tea comes from Shan State.”
People around the area know this as truth.
This year, Karen is offering half a pound of green tea from Loi Mwe, an
old British hill station nearly 5,000 feet up a Shan mountain. These
are whole tea leaves, which produce a mild, smokey, flowery drink
without the slightest hint of bitterness. It is the drink of the Shan
world, served with every meal, offered to every guest. It warms the
heart on cold winter mornings. Karen purchased this tea herself in Shan
State, with profits going directly into local hands. [Ship worldwide]

"When I uploaded a photo of Mugaritz’s head chef Dan Hunter to Flickr somebody tagged him as cute. I don’t know whether that alone makes a visit to the Royal Mail Hotel at Dunkeld
in Victoria’s southern Grampians worthwhile but his food does. His food
showcases the herbs, vegetables and leaves from the hotel’s extensive
kitchen gardens matched with the wines selected by sommelier Lok
Thornton from one of the best wine cellars in the state.
I’ve eaten there twice and both times impressed. On my last visit I ate
one the of the best most aromatic truffle dishes I have ever had made
with the Tasmanian Perigord variety. His flavours are pure; squid
tastes of squid, for instance. And his presentation, as you’d expect,

AP11: 1 nights accommodation and a 3 course meal for 2 at the Provenance Restaurant in Beechworth.
Michael Ryan, ex Range in Myrtleford, has taken over the Bank in Beechworth which he has renamed Provenance Restaurant and Luxury Suites.
In last year’s Good Food Guide Ryan scored two hats which means we can
expect some pretty special cooking at his new place. The whole site,
including the four suites at the rear of the property in the old
stables, have just had an extensive refit. He is offering one night’s
accommodation worth $295 and a three course meal for two worth $140.
AP10: A year’s supply of Tim Tams
Jules at the gorgeous Stone Soup and her employer Arnott’s
are donating offering three delicious cases of Australia’s favourite
chocolate biscuit Tim Tams. That’s 72 packets of Tim Tams over a year -
way more than one pack a week. If you’re a fan of Tim Tams then this prize is for you!
AP20: A degustation meal for two at Libertine with matching wines worth $270.
a charming romantic French restaurant without the beret in North
Melbourne and is offering a degustation for two of eight courses,
focusing on seasonal produce available on the day, including highlights
from Libertine’s a la carte menu, with matching wines, valued at $270.
I’ve eaten there myself this year and had a great meal but ran out of
time to blog about it. The food is good but what is exceptional is the
list of carefully chosen wines mainly from small French producers.
Unlike some large restaurants connected to a certain casino you won’t
find yourself here being charged through the nose for wines that you
could by off the shelf from your local bottle shop.
